"I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's
affairs -- how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this
world -- how he can please his wife -- and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or
virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body
and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world -- how she can
please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may
live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord."
(I Corinthians 7:32-35)
Our quest is to be the most dynamic, diverse, and most visible ministry in the church in regards to our acts of service, activities, and undivided devotion to the Lord. The singles should inspire the church. When Jesus prayed for His disciples in John 17, He strongly emphasized unity. He prayed that their unity would reflect the unity that He has with the Father (v11). This depth of unity is of the utmost importance for the sake of reflecting Christ's glory (v10), for companionship (v13-14), and for protection from the world (v15). This is the key ingredient and what we, as singles, need to strive for in order to help us rise above those issues we deal with in today's world to become the ministry that God wants us to be.
